• Sometimes, a horse is just special. Nobody really knows why, but they are just unbeatable. Very few of these horses still exist with the parity that UK horse racing demonstrates today, but one horse in particular is worthy of greatness. That horse is named Sea The Stars.

Sea The Stars is a now famous race horse that was foaled in 2006. He has accomplished many things few other race horses have done in their career, and now stands as one of the greatest race horses in UK horse racing history.

Sea The Stars has won all the major races in the UK – the 2000 Guineas, The Eclipse Stakes, The International Stakes, and most of all the Epsom Derby. He was unbeaten in all of his starts – something that few horses have been able to accomplish in their careers.

Currently, Sea The Stars is standing for stud. He commands a fee of 85,000 Euros, but people are still lining up to get a piece of racing history into the lineage of their next horse. Hopefully, he will be able to produce many more winners for someone else!

You don’t get to see horses like Sea The Stars very often. That is why it is so important to go to the large horse races in the UK and follow all the news on these great horses. Once you see them in real life, you will have an experience you will never forget and will be able to tell your grandkids.

  • Most people think that horse racing is generally a sport that is followed by men. But, believe it or not, women are also big fans of horse racing, and some racetracks are going above and beyond to cater to the female horse racing fans.

On April 8th, it is ladies day at Aintree racecourse. What does this mean? What is it all about? Why should you be interested?

Ladies Day at Aintree is an event in which all the women come out, watch the races and wear their most fashionable clothes. This may sound silly, but it is actually quite a popular event.

Of course, there are still many important horse races going on during that day, but the main focus is on what the women are wearing. There are parties and even some awards that are given out to the ladies that are the best dressed. But, even if you are a lady and you don’t want to get dressed up, you can still go and watch the others and see what they are wearing.

Ladies Day at Aintree is a great way to get a lot of the females that accompany their husbands or boyfriends to the racetrack involved in the festivities. People are starting to understand that if they can get their significant others interested in going to the track and having a good time, they will also be able to spend more time doing what they love – watching horses race.

  • One thing that is relatively unique about horse racing betting is the fact that is that it has remained relatively unchanged for much of its duration. The fraction system that is currently being used has been the standard for a very long time. But now, there is a push to move to a decimal odds based system.

What is the main difference, though? Basically, it is easier, more efficient, and more exact to use decimals than it is to use fractions when assigning odds to specific race horses. There is not that much of a fundamental difference between fractions and decimals, but people aren’t used to it an they wont use that they don’t understand.

There was a recent experiment that was been done in which one of the major bookmakers switched over to decimal odds for one day. They got the same amount of traffic, but the amount of bets was lower overall. They reckoned that people saw the decimal odds, didn’t understand them, and went somewhere else to place their bets. They have not done this again so far, as it would damage the amount of money they make.

So, will decimal odds eventually catch on and become the standard for horse racing in the UK? Nobody really knows the answer to that, but based on the very limited experiences bookmakers have had with this new system, it is safe to say that decimal odds are still a little ways off before it is adopted as the new standard.

  • The Cheltenham Festival is one of the most well known hunt races anywhere in the world. It is a must see event for anyone who is interested in horse racing or horses in general. But, how did this festival get its start? What makes it so special?

The Cheltenham Festival traces its history all the way back to 1902 when the first race was held. The first race was held at the same location as it is today. The race wasn’t in the same format, though. In 1904, the first steeplechase event was included. The event continues on from then, growing every year to what it now is.

The Cheltenham Festival has continued to grow so much that they have had to add a fourth day to the festival to accommodate all of the events. There is not just one great race that happens, but a whole variety that keeps the crowd entertained.

There have only been a few years where the Cheltenham Festival has actually been cancelled or postponed. One of the most recent cases of this was in 2001 when a foot and mouth epidemic took over Britain and the race had to be cancelled. Sometimes weather has also reeked havoc on the race, but all the scheduled races have been squeezed in some how.

The Cheltenham Festival is an event that everyone who is a horse racing fan should go and see. Nowhere else in the world will you find an event as exciting and as lucrative as the Cheltenham Festival.

  • The Investec Derby is coming up, and all the horse bettors are looking for the next winner. But, who will it be? Here are some of the main candidates for the win at the Investec Derby 2010!

    St Nicholas Abbey
St Nicholas Abbey is the favorite for the running of the 2010 Investec Derby. If the weather is clear, then this is a good horse to bet on. But, if it starts to rain and the track gets muddy, the odds may change at the last second. Some people doubt the ability of St Nicholas Abbey, but this is a horse you should believe in.

    Workforce
Workforce is seen as the main contender to St Nicholas Abbey. Workforce has been a little inconsistent in the past as well, but the odds makers seem to like Workforce, so we should too. Look for Workforce and St Nicholas Abbey to be the two main contenders this year.

    Jan Vermeer
Jan Vermeer is another one of the main contenders for the Investec Derby, and may be one of the last favorites to win the race. Jan Vermeer is an underdog to both Workforce and St Nicholas Abbey, but upsets happen all the time at the Investec Derby.

In the end, it is almost impossible to pick a winner this far in advance of the Investec Derby. The above three are great candidates for the win, but in reality, anyone can win, and if the weather goes bad, who knows what will happen. Make sure you are watching to see a great race!
